Rachel Rhodes

Paris, France-based composer and bassist, Rachel Rhodes, was born to two classically trained singers and raised in Austin, Texas. Making music was pretty much inevitable. It’s hard to say if the bass guitar chose her or if she chose it, but from age 11 onward, there was no looking back. And while she loves a heavy groove, her years on the ‘cello inform many of the melodic choices. Throughout her young adult years, Rachel played bass in her own bands and supported singer-songwriters at noted Austin venues such as Threadgill’s, La Zona Rosa, The Waterloo Ice House, and The Cactus Café.

Primarily a recording artist, Rachel is drawn to improvisational composition. The desire to express herself as honestly and clearly as possible on the bass guitar is what drives her music today, as can be heard on her 2017 EP, Lighter Later.

In 2018, she shifted from the bass to synthesized modular synths with Bleeps and Bloops, improvised soundtracks to vintage arcade games from a parallel universe. Today, you can find her back on the extended range bass guitar, playing small gigs around Paris and working on her next album, The Good Hurt.

Rachel Elrick Gold Series 6-string and Elrick Gold Series 8-string basses.
