Question: What strings do you use?
Answer: Stock strings on all basses are Elrick Strings. Medium gauge (.045-.065-.085-.105) stainless steel roundwound on fretted basses, medium gauge (.045-.065-.085-.105) nickel steel roundwound on fretless basses. Low B strings are .130 taper and high C strings are .035.
Question: Do you offer other pickups / electronics (pre-amp)?
Answer: Although Bartolini linear hum cancelling jazz coil pickups and 9v 3-band pre-amps are standard equipment in all basses Bartolini soapbar pickups and 18v 3-band pre-amps as well as passive installations are available by special request. Aero pickups are also available by request. Because Aero offers so many different pickups I highly recommend consulting the Aero Instrument website to determine which pickup is appropriate for your particular application.
Question: What size allen keys do I need to adjust my truss rod and bridge?
Answer: Truss rod wrenches:
Instruments built prior to 2008 require a 3/16″ allen key
Instruments built from 2008- 2010 & Expat Series basses with serial numbers ending 08 require a 5 mm allen key
Instruments built after 2010 require a 4 mm allen key
Elrick signature bridges require a 1/16″ allen key
Hipshot type A bridges require a 1/16″ allen key
Hipshot type B bridges require a .050″ allen key
All new instruments come with a tool kit containing all the wrenches needed to make adjustments to your bass. Dunlop Straplock strap attachments are also included with all US Elrick basses.
If you did not receive a tool kit with your new instrument, contact your dealer. Replacement kits are available from Elrick Bass Guitars Bass Guitars.
Question: How do I adjust my truss rod?
Answer: If you are not confident you know how to properly adjust your truss rod please seek assistance from a qualified technician. The truss rod is intended to compensate for the forward bow caused by the tension of the strings. In order to remove forward bow the rod needs to be tightened, turn the nut clockwise (from the bass to treble side on right handed instruments.) Always adjust the rod a small amount at a time (usually 1/8 to 1/4 turn.) Never over-tighten or force the adjustment nut, forcing the nut may damage the rod or nut.
Question: What woods are available?
Answer:
Bodies – Swamp ash, alder, mahogany, walnut, black limba (korina), domestic tulip, satinwood.
Necks – Hard maple, wenge.
Fretboards – Wenge, bubinga, cocobolo, indian rosewood, quarter-sawn maple, birdseye maple, gabon (black) ebony, macassar (striped) ebony, kingwood, pink ivory, brazilian rosewood.
Tops – My selection of figured hardwoods for tops is constantly changing but I always try to stock a variety of:
burled maple, quilted maple, curly / flamed maple
figured walnut, curly walnut, crotched walnut
burled myrtle, burled tasmanian rose myrtle
burled madrone
pomelle sapele
figured bubinga
purpleheart
zeebra
holly
Other woods such as burled buckeye may be available on a limited basis and by special request.
Question: Where is my serial number and how old is my instrument?
Answer: On US made instruments, the serial number is located underneath the control cavity cover. The last two digits of the serial number is the production year.
On Expat Series instruments, the serial number can be found on the back of the headstock, but you probably found that yourself.
