No less a luminary than Victor Wooten has remarked, “Steve Lawson is a brilliant musician. I’ve known about him and listened to him for many years. He may not be one of the most famous bassists but he is definitely one of the most talented.” Who are we to argue?
Steve Lawson’s otherworldly cinematic soundscapes, improvised live with nothing but a bass guitar, a MIDI controller and a bewildering array of pedals, have helped make him the most celebrated solo bassist in the UK!
Lauded by press and public alike, touring the world as solo artist, sideman and clinician/educator, Steve has produced a staggering 41 solo and collaborative releases in the last 15 years, building an uncommonly large following for his particular brand of melodic ambient electronica. Audiences are drawn in by his friendly, warm stage presence, but stick around for the ECM-meets-Windham Hill vibe of his captivating, mostly-improvised solo and duo performances.
Steve’s recent collaborators include; Divinity Roxx, Beardyman, Reeves Gabrels, Jason Cooper (The Cure), Andy Gangadeen, Jon Thorne (Lamb), Rob Turner (GoGo Penguin), Jem Godfrey (Frost*), Tanya Donelly, Briana Corrigan, Mark Kelly (Marillion), Roy Dodds (Fairground Attraction), to name just a few… Perhaps the most rewarding of Lawson’s collaborations are those with his American singer and multi-instrumentalist wife, Lobelia. The couple tour venues and perform house concerts across the UK, Europe and the US.
