Josh Cahill
Josh Cahill was born and raised in San Pedro, California to a family of musicians.
His father encouraged him to play music from a very young age. Starting with piano, he picked up multiple instruments, but was drawn to the bass when he first heard Victor Wooten play with Béla Fleck and the Flecktones.
Listening to mainly Jazz, Funk, and Soul, Josh was self taught on the bass throughout middle and high school. Later, he attended LA Harbor College and studied with Wagner Trindade. Josh is currently a Jazz/Commercial Music major at California State University Fullerton and studies with Luther Hughes. Josh plays around the LA area as a freelance player and with 3 groups. This past Spring ‘19, Josh was lucky enough to perform with the legendary Doc Severinsen of the Johnny Carson Tonight Show and Brandon Fields of Tower of Power with the CSUF Jazz Orchestra.
In 2017, Josh played an Elrick for the first time and found himself completely obsessed with the instrument. A year later, he was able to purchase his own. That being said, he’s beyond happy to be recognized and is so thankful for this opportunity!
